My Experience

I was about 26 years old and very very flabby at the time and I remember it like it was clear as day…
“We have some time to kill.  Let’s hit the gym together,” my friend said to me. She just came back  from  vacation  and she was itching to hit the gym
Before then I’ve never set foot in a gym or even picked up a dumbbell as they say in the Army, “I was green”
“Sure…” I said hesitantly not knowing what to expect. “Don’t worry, we’ll go light.  Just work up a sweat, ” my friend said.
“Okay sounds good!” I said.  I was a bit relieved, because after all it was my very first time ever working out.  To make things worse, when I couldn’t finish a set the trainer would scream at me in his  commanding voice and belittle me in front of everyone at the gym
My first experience in the gym was an hour of pure hell.  For one whole year I would avoid all types of physical activity after that traumatizing experience. Thankfully since then I’ve gotten over that fear to build my body to the way it is right now.But quite honestly, my results would have been much much faster if I had someone there that was actually on my side, coaching me the whole way through instead of pummelling my body to the ground.
And I’m pretty sure with the current obesity epidemic facing us a lot more people can use that type of coaching to point others in the right direction.
Have you ever been told that all you have to do in order to lose fat is to burn more calories than you eat? The trainer then proceeded to blast my body with the most painstaking workout I’ve ever experienced to this day.
CRUNCHES!
The crunch is one of the most common abdominal exercises. It primarily works the rectus abdominis muscle. Crunches are a lot like sit-ups, except that instead of lifting your entire back off the floor, you only lift your upper back. This isolates (“crunches”) the dominal muscles without engaging muscles in your hips.
A crunch begins with lying face up on the floor with knees bent. The movement begins by curling the shoulders towards the pelvis. The hands can be behind or beside the neck or crossed over the chest. Injury can be caused by pushing against the head or neck with handsWhile many people strive toward six-pack abs, the most common exercise they’re using may be more effective at increasing back pain than building muscle. Exercise physiologist Pete McCall explains why crunches may result in more bad than good, and offers five new alternatives that sculpt abs while strengthening the entire core.
Maybe it’s just me, but it seems as if the first question I’m asked by most clients is “How do I get a six-pack?” or how do I become “Lepacious”  meaning “slim” It could be because so much media and advertising feature models baring lean midriffs. And don’t get me started on all of the late-night TV products designed to “ABSolutely, positively” provide the user with a sculpted midsection. Anyone who has worked in fitness for more than a few minutes knows that one reason why many people start exercising is to create a flat and sculpted stomach. Walk around most gyms and two of the most common core exercises you’ll see are the plank and the crunch. The plank can help tighten your tummy while reducing low-back pain. Crunches, on the other hand, can actually make back pain worse.

New Security Gadgets Installed At Airports

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, said on Tuesday it has installed modern security equipment at the nation’s airports to improve safety and security.
“The Authority has already installed seven brand new X-ray scanning machines at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos, five at the cargo basement of the international terminal, one at the Hajj and Cargo terminal and another at the airport’s domestic terminal 1,” said Yakubu Dati, FAAN’s image maker.
Dati said all the other airports in the country are also benefiting from the installation of these new scanning machines, which include cargo screening machines, carry-on screening machines, hand-held metal detectors, 3-D body scanners, hold baggage screening machines and walk-through metal detectors.
“These scanners will help to ensure increased security surveillance of outgoing baggage destined for aircraft bulk hold. This is in addition to the CCTV cameras installed within the airports, which will ensure that illegal or unapproved luggage are not loaded onto the aircraft. It will also help check pilfering of luggage,” Dati said.
He said the provision of these new security equipment was also necessitated by the expansion and remodelling of airports, the structural designs of which were altered.

Movie producer on mission to save Majek

Novia and Majek

Charles Novia’s much-awaited film on Majek Fashek rekindles hope for the celebrated reggae star,

Just as he did with his biography, Nollywood till November: Memoirs of a Nollywood insider, Nollywood producer, Charles Novia is poised to stir up the entertainment scene with the long-awaited film on legendary Nigerian reggae music star, Majekodunmi Fasheke, aka Majek Fashek.
Titled Majek the Rainmaker, the movie has been in the making for about two years. But Novia says that he is not under pressure to hasten its production.
“Although time is the major challenge that I am having at present, I am not worried that the production of the film is taking a long time to complete. I’m taking it in my stride because you cannot do a movie like this on a low budget. I believe that even as the production drags, the story will keep telling itself,” he says, in an interview with our correspondent.
The seasoned producer blames the delay in the production of the film on a number of factors. One of them is the global economic crisis of 2010, which prevented some interested sponsors from investing in the film.
A few logistic and technical hitches had also led to the temporary suspension of the production. But Novia declares, rather excitedly, that everything has finally been sorted out.
“Lately I managed to get a couple of investors in Los Angeles to inject funds in the movie. I will be travelling to the United State of America to shoot the final part of the movie very soon,” he says.
‘Majek the Rainmaker’ is being shot in three parts. The first part focuses on the early years of Majek Fashek in Benin City,  where he was born. The second part deals with the beginning and the peak of his career as a music star. It includes his early days with the famous, but now defunct, reggae group known as the Jastix.
This period, the 1980s precisely, was the defining point in Majek’s career, which saw him playing alongside the likes of Ras Kimono and Amos McRoy and engaging in extensive tours with the Mandators before he left the Jastix to release the multiple-award winning album, Prisoner of Conscience.
The third part of the movie covers Majek’s foray into the American music scene. But it is doubtful if the producer will dwell on his gradual descent from limelight, despite recording two successful albums (‘Rainmaker’ and ‘Little Patience’) for different records labels in the US, to a life of addiction to drugs.
Against the backdrop of reports insinuating that consistent drug use might have eventually unhinged the reggae star, Novia appears determined to get the movie released to the public as quickly as possible.
More than a biography of Majek Fashek, the movie seems to be a self-imposed task to salvage what is left of the crumbled image of the musician, who has been recently spotted in different parts of Lagos looking quite emaciated and,  evidently, in dire need of rehabilitation.
When asked why he has chosen Majek as the subject of the work-in-progress, the movie producer replies, “Majek has been grossly misunderstood by his fans in Nigeria and Africa. I feel he has a story that must be told. I want to tell that story as best as I can. I have been his manager for six years. Don’t forget that my records label, November Records, released his last album in Nigeria.”

There may be more to the sack of nine ministers of the Federal Republic of Nigeria today than meets the eyes.

CKN Nigeria independent investigation has revealed that it may not be unconnected with the crisis rocking the Presidency and the People’s Democratic Party.

Ouur investigation also showed that most of those sacked were directly linked to the seven aggrieved Governors of the PDP that formed the new PDP.
