What has MBGN 2010 Fiona Amuzie Been Up to Lately? Find Out!

Fiona Amuzie - September 2013 - BellaNaija01

Once a queen, always a queen.
The Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria 2010 Fiona Amuzie recently had a chat with journalist Mercy Abang about her life post-MBGN and her new foundation Fiona Amuzie Organization against Trafficking in Persons and Child Labour.
In the “Conversations with Abang Mercy” interview, she also opens up about her decision to study psychology and why she is truly a born queen.
Read Excerpts from the interview;
After winning the 2010 Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria, what have you been up to, in terms of your personal life or projects?
Well, after MBGN, I enrolled into Coventry University in the UK to study psychology. I knew this was going to be challenging because of my organization but I took on the challenge.
So I’ve been handling my studies, travelling and working hard at putting FOTIP on a global platform. I’ve also been working at plough-back investments and building my relationship.
What has changed about Fiona? Has being a queen changed who you are or what you do?
Change is one thing that is constant in life. I’ve definitely grown up Mercy. (Smiles) I’m wiser and better. And I’ll always be a queen. My middle name is Ezenwanyi which means Queen in Igbo language. So being crowned MBGN only amplified who I am.
Fiona Amuzie - September 2013 - BellaNaija02
What inspired you to study Psychology? Why not something else?
The body is a slave to the mind. I was interested in expanding my knowledge on human behavior and the correlation between the mind and the body. I want to be able to use that to understand how traffickers victimize people. So I can effectively impact a different orientation to people.
You said you’ve been working hard at putting FOTIP on a global platform. What is FOTIP?
Thank you Mercy, FOTIP is basically the abbreviated term for the Fiona Amuzie Organization against trafficking in persons and child labour. FOTIP is a non-profit organization designed to join in combating the scourge of trafficking in persons. At the organization, our objective is to create a forum for victims to share experiences and views with co-victims and be persuaded to join in the combat.
As well as raising awareness of trafficking in person (TIP) issues to a very high level globally. And we provide support to victims of TIP to institute a local organization in the regions and in schools that will carry on with the fight against TIP even when funding is finished. Not forgetting that we provide genuine alternatives to the under privileged invariably making them less vulnerable to traffickers as part of the overall objectives of the organization.

Plane grounded after snake is found at doorway

Click for Full Image Size

A Mandarin rat snake predominantly found in Asia, forced the grounding of a Tokyo-bound Qantas flight in Sydney after being found near the doorway of the plane.

A spokesperson from the Department of Agriculture has praised Qantas's quick actions, with the finding of the snake demonstrating the important collaborative efforts of the department and airport staff in identifying and containing serious biosecurity risks.

Australia's flagship airline said passengers were given hotel rooms overnight and left Sydney on a replacement plane Monday morning. Qantas said the original jet would be fumigated before returning to service in case there were other snakes on board.

The snake was taken by quarantine officials for analysis.

The Agriculture Department said the snake, a species that grows to an average 1.2 meters (4 feet), had been euthanized, 'as exotic reptiles of this kind can harbor pests and diseases not present in Australia.'

The department said the snake had arrived aboard the jet in a flight a day earlier from Singapore.

'The Department of Agriculture is looking into how the snake came to be on the plane, but isn't able to speculate at this time,' it said in a statement.

The mildly venomous Asian snake was about the width of a pencil and did not pose a threat to humans, but it had the potential to cause ecological havoc in the Australian environment if it had escaped the plane with a mate, Canberra Reptile Zoo herpetologist Peter Child said.

While snakes rarely pose aviation hazards, a 3-meter (10-foot) python in January clung to the wing of a Qantas flight from the northeast coast city of Cairns to Papua New Guinea. The python died during the flight but was still attached to the wing when the two-hour flight ended in the national capital Port Moresby.

I Have Always Made The Wrong Choice In Men! I'm In Church Now So I Can Spot The Good One - Funmi Fiberesima

Funmi is an actress and a movie producer. I found her interview somewhere and decided to bring it here. Lol, some of them (celebrities) need to watch what they say, especially when it comes to their love life and the interviewer is so funny. I just love her person tho. See the interview below;

Who is Funmi Fiberesima?
I am a producer and actress but I like to refer to myself as entertainment entrepreneur because I handle the business of entertainment...

How much did you spend producing your first movie?
I spent close to N12m and that was because I ran into a lot of people that were thieves but my production was protected because of my background. I have learnt that if I have to give somebody any money, the person has to sign a written agreement.

The money must have come from your boyfriend?
I don’t have a boyfriend.

Why is that?
I seem to make all the wrong choices. The cliché that good girls like bad boys applies to my situation because I have a tendency to run into the wrong kind of guys.

Did you fall for a bad boy?
Yes. I fell for a couple of them. I seem to have a track record in that area. The fact is that if one person does something bad to you and the second person does the same thing, you begin to ask if you have a problem. I am currently going through rehabilitation process in church so that I can spot a good guy when he comes.

What happened with the last guy you dated?
He is married now. We actually got engaged, he was a good guy but a boring one.

Would you have preferred an actor to him?
No, I would not prefer an actor because I am not sure I would be able to endure the sight of my husband kissing another woman in a movie.

But that is your profession…
I know. Our profession is the type that can drive a woman crazy. I know there are some actors that do all that and are still committed to their homes but I don’t think I am secure enough to be an actor’s wife.

Jennifer Adighije- Okolo Wins N13.5M Court Case Against HELIOS Towers

The Industrial Court, Ikoyi, Lagos has given a ruling in favour of Jennifer Adighije-Okolo, the well known designer who is the creative director of the House of Silk against her former employer Helios Towers, a telecom firm.  In the court ruling, the Telecom firm would need to pay, Jennifer Adighije-Okolo #13.55 Million for unfairly terminating her employment. Jennifer before the sack was the company's Head of Operations & Planning.

The Company had terminated their former employee's appointment for what they had termed poor performance (performing below par), Jennifer not satisfied with how she was sacked had taken the company to the Industrial Court, Ikoyi, Lagos seeking for redress. The end result of the case is her winning #9 Million which is the sum total of her salary from between February 1, 2010 to January 31, 2012. Apart from the #9 Million, the defendant would also be paying the claimant another #4.5 Million for damages and also awarded in the claimant's favour is another #50,000 cost.

According to Jennifer, she had been graded excellent by her immediate boss in her yearly appraisal, only for another appraisal body (the management review team) to have given an appraisal of below average, consequent upon which her appointment was terminated.

In his Judgement, Justice O. Abaseki-Osaghae said - The claimant testified as the only witness in support of her claims. She also stated that her performance was very much appreciated by the defendant that when there was a job rotation, she was asked to take charge as Head, Operation/Planning in September 2009. That all through her employment with the defendant, she was conscious of her personal objective with the defendant company, which she knew would form the basis of her rating in the annual appraisal.

“It is the law that an employer is not bound to give reason for terminating the appointment of its employee but where the employer gives a reason, the law imposes on him a duty to establish the reason to the satisfaction of the court.

“I find that the said management review team was acting out a script when, spitefully, maliciously and without any basis, wrote on the claimant’s appraisal form ‘Below expectation’ and recommended that her appointment be terminated.”

The court upheld the claimant’s position that she was entitled to compensation, since she signed the restrictive covenant, not to work for any other telecommunication company, until after two years of her leaving the company.   “She has kept to this covenant. I, therefore, award the sum of N9million as compensation being her salary for two years from January 2010 to January 31, 2012 pursuant to section 19 (d) of the National Industrial Act, 2006.

“For all the reasons given above, I find that the claimant has proved her case. I hereby, declare and make the following orders: the claimant’s employment with the defendant was wrongfully terminated. The letter of termination is hereby set aside. The reason given in the termination notice written by the defendant that the claimant’s “performance has failed to meet acceptable standard” is false and malicious.

“The defendant is to pay the claimant the sum of N4.5million as damages for wrongful termination of her appointment. The defendant is to pay the claimant the sum of N9million as compensation for the period February 1, 2010 to January 31, 2012. The sums are to be paid within 30 days from the date of this judgment. I award in favour of the claimant cost of N50, 000 to be paid by the defendant. Judgment is entered accordingly.”

Honey; A Must Read For Those Who Eat It Regularly

Truly, honey is a superfood, a nectarian delight and an effective healing agent all in one. It is packed with vitamins and minerals, enzymes and antioxidants, lots of carbohydrates in the form of sugars and even some amino acids. So sweet is it that, taken together, its unique combination of fructose and glucose makes it sweeter than table sugar.

When you have a moment, hold up a clear jar of honey up in the sunlight and see the golden nectar for what it is. Its amber color reflects much of the sun’s energy which was utilized in its process of creation.

In Ayurveda honey is considered one of the most effective natural delivery systems for the therapeutic administration of herbal preparations and other remedies.

As in all healing systems throughout the world, there is much subtlety and nuance associated with every healing agent “under the sun”. By that we mean that a single food or herb or spice has different healing qualities associated with it depending on it’s source, its specific type, ripeness, exact time of being picked or harvested, what kind of ground it is grown in, among several other determinants.

In the case of honey there are additional differences which are even more subtle, but no less important in distinguishing one healing application from another. By way of illustration, here is a list of the eight different types of honey identified within Ayurveda which can be found at the website linked below:

Types of Honey:

Eight types of honey are described in ayurveda depending on the type of bee which collects it. They are Pouttika, Bhramara, Kshoudra, Makshika, Chatra, Arghya, Oudalaka, Dala.

Pouttika – This honey is collected by very large bees from the nectar of poisonous flowers. It increases vata, causes gout and burning sensation in chest. It is also sedative and reduces fat.

Bhramara – This honey is collected by large bees and sticky in nature.

Kshoudra – (Honey collected by medium sized honey bees) light and cold in nature. Dissolves Kapha.

Makshika – (Honey collected by small honey bees) very light and dry natured. Useful in VataKapha diseases and kapha diseases.

Chatra – Heavy and cold in nature useful in gout, Leucoderma (Shwitra).

Arghya – Good for eyes but causes arthritis.

Oudalaka – Useful in skin diseases, and helps in modulation of voice.

Dala – Dry and reduces vomiting.

Amongst all the above “Makshika” is considered as the best type with immense medicinal properties.

Without delving into the ayurvedic nomenclature we can quickly see just how important this expanded understanding may be for those using honey medicinally on a regular basis, as well as for those who eat a lot in their regular diet like The Health Coach.

According to Ayurveda, honey possesses many useful medicinal properties which are not well unknown, except among the many practitioners of this ancient system of health and wellness. What follows is just a short list of some of honey’s more common usages which can be found at the same website:

Some Health Benefits of Honey:
a. Honey is very good for eyes and eye sight.

b. It quenches thirst.

c. Dissolves kapha.

d. Reduces effects of poison.

e. Stops hiccups.

f. It is very useful in urinary tract disorders, worm infestations, bronchial asthma, cough, diarrhea and nausea, vomiting.

Wow!! Mercy Aigbe & Her Lovely Daughter Before And Now

Wow!! Mercy Aigbe & Her Lovely Daughter Before And Now

I had a mother-in-law who didn’t like where I come from. She didn’t like the fact that her son didn’t marry a lady from their village. She made me go through hell. At a point when I couldn’t take it any more, I left the marriage."

"At first, my ex-husband actually fought it but some women have a strong hold on their sons. In the end, he obeyed her. He didn’t like it that I was leaving but he couldn’t hold me back at the same time because he wanted to please his mum. We had fought the battle for a long time and it wasn’t as if it would come to an end, I had to leave."

"I swear I wouldn’t blame them. If I think back to what I went through, I wouldn’t pray for anyone to go through such because I went through hell in the hands of that woman. And for me to have woken up one day and decided to leave, it wasn’t easy because I was young and tried my best to please her. But she wasn’t pleased. I went out of my way to learn their language, learn how to cook different dishes just to please her but she didn’t budge." Mercy Aigbe-Gentry, on her previous marriage with Vanguard . God is forever grateful!

Hornet Stings 19 People To Death In China

At least 19 people have been stung to death by hornets -- which may include the world's largest hornet species Vespa mandarinia -- in China's central Shaanxi province in the last three months, according to the city government of Ankang, the apparent epicenter of a recent spate of fatalities and injuries.

A total of 583 people in the area have been stung by hornets since July 1, say city officials. Seventy victims are still recovering in hospitals.

Chen Changlin was hospitalized after being attacked by hornets, while harvesting rice last week.

"I ran and shouted for help, but the hornets chased me about 200 meters, and stung me for more than 3 minutes," he recounted to the state-run China Youth Daily.

Chen said hornets had first swarmed a woman and child working nearby, who then ran towards him. Both later died from the hornets' toxins.

"The more you run, the more they want to chase you," said another victim, whose kidneys were ravaged by the venom. When he was admitted to the hospital, his urine was the color of soy sauce, according to local reports.

Earlier this month, 30 people -- including 23 primary school children aged between six and eight years -- were injured in a hornet attack in Guangxi province, south of Shaanxi. Their teacher, Li Zhiqiang, told his students to hide under tables as he tried to drive away the insects before he lost consciousness. The school's headmaster told local media that most of the injured suffered stings to their heads, necks, hands and feet.

Nearly 60 students and teachers were injured in a separate incident in the province at the start of the month, according to state media.

Experts say a number of reasons may have contributed to the apparent increase in hornet activity, including the region's recent hot, dry weather, land development and hornet sensitivity to the smell of people.

The Asian killer hornet, which is suspected in these incidents, are formidable, carnivorous killers, according to the non-profit Honeybee Conservancy. The species feed their young with the larvae of other insects and use their talons and mandibles to sever the limbs and heads of their prey. The hornet's venom sting is a neurotoxin so powerful that it dissolves human tissue, according to the Guinness Book of World Records.

This week's latest incidents spurred the Ankang city government to hold an emergency video call addressing local concerns. Vice Mayor Lu Qi said he would increase investment in regional hornet control. Mayor Xu Qifang added the city would establish a 24-hour emergency hornet response team.
